Summer 2026 LA Application

Fall 2026 LA Application

For full consideration, everyone who hopes to work as an LA must fill out this form during the priority window. These forms are for both:

  1. Current/past LAs who are interested in working again in Summer and/or Fall 2026, and
  2. Students who are interested in becoming LAs for the first time in Summer and/or Fall 2026. NOTE: The only openings for new LAs we anticipate for Summer 2026 are in the College of Nursing. There are generally more positions available for new LAs each Fall semester.

The priority window for applications ends March 13, 2026. Everyone who applies before this date will receive full consideration. Your prompt attention is important, but hiring will NOT be “first come, first served” as long as you apply within the priority window.

The Learning Assistant (LA) Program enhances students’ learning experiences by making courses more interactive and by making large classes feel more like small classes. LAs are undergraduates who have successfully completed a course and are subsequently selected by faculty to work with them in the classroom, helping current students engage with course material for better understanding. Through the guidance of weekly preparation sessions and a pedagogy course, the LAs facilitate discussions and problem-solving among groups of students in a variety of classroom settings that encourage active learning.

To date, we have trained approximately 4,000 LAs. Some sections of the following courses
have been enhanced and supported by working with the LA program:

Biological Sciences

Chemistry & Biochemistry

Computer Science

Mathematics

Mechanical Engineering

Nursing

Political Science

Social Work

History

The program supports student learning and success at FSU and beyond by:

  • Improving student success in high-enrollment, lower-division courses, which provide the foundation for learning in later courses;
  • Better preparing students for STEM majors and careers;
  • Creating a meaningful opportunity for undergraduate LAs to support learning while growing as students and professionals themselves; and
  • Supporting faculty in their course design and teaching practices by fostering a community for pedagogical exchange and innovation.
